So, yesterday I was a little disappointed that I’d only lost about 0.5lbs (0.23kgs) in the previous 2 days despite a 36hr fast. As I’ve noted before however, often these things do take a couple of days to show up.
So after breaking my fast yesterday with sausages, bacon, eggs, toast and fried onions and mushrooms – followed by ice cream for dessert – I decided to fast again. I was going to aim for another 36hrs, but had forgotten that I have tickets to see the new Marvel movie, Black Widow, this evening at 8.30pm, so that would make for another 30 hr fast which is just fine.
I also went out last night for another 3.6km walk/run workout – definitely managing to extend the running and reduce the walking and feeling a little fitter.
So anyway, I’m now currently 20 hours into my fast, and I decided to weigh in yet again this morning only to find that my weight loss has indeed now suddenly caught up with me!
Since YESTERDAY’s weigh-in, yes, just 24hrs ago, I’ve now lost 3.5lbs (1.6kgs), to bring me down to 18 stone 1lbs (253lbs / 114.75kgs).
That’s really cheered me up. I’ve now lost 10lbs in just over 10 days!

This “whoosh” effect of apparrent sudden weight loss has always been a factor of fasting. I am not entirely sure why, but it just seems to go that way more often than not.
There’s a theory that I’ve heard which suggests that fat cells break down by degrees, but don’t get fully “consumed” immediatly since the body doesn’t know if it will need those cells again soon. It’s more efficient to “top up” existing fat cells than create new ones from scratch. However, once it’s clear that you are in a burning energy phase rather than storing energy, eventually all those mostly drained fat cells seem to get released in one go resulting in this sudden “whoosh” effect of apparrently rapid weight loss. Possibly it’s tied to the increase in autophagy that happens as you fast as well, since that process is all about clearing out dead cells.
Whatever the reason, I’m always over the moon to see these sudden weight losses when they happen! ๐
Anyway – today I plan to get out for a bike ride – I was contemplating another swim but I think two swims a week is fine at the moment and I don’t want to overdo it. And of course I also need to get Willow out for a walk.
And then I can look forward to pigging out at the cinema tonight in celebration of my 10lbs breakthrough! ๐
